It’s a new year & I’m back! The energy & high I get as I write is indescribable, almost like a therapeutic release.
This year, rather than new resolutions, I’d like to share my 2022 habits … some of which I’ve implemented in 2021 and some that are brand new. I’m a goal-setter – I love setting goals for myself, I love talking about New Year resolutions, and also hearing about what goals my friends set for themselves. Not going to lie, there are definitely goals that I set that I don’t meet (or haven’t met yet) so this year, let’s talk habits instead. I’ll break them into 3 sections: Routine, Lifestyle, Mind
Routine
Like most, I’ve been working from home for 2 years now & there are the weeks where I feel like the days are so mundane … wake up, work, quick lunch, work way past the time that I need to, dinner, sleep. So I’ve started to be really intentional about my routine to cultivate my days to be more exciting. Waking up by 7 to give myself 2 hours before work – make my Nespresso (a must .. yes I am that person), write in my planner, and work out (a new must for me). Working out in the morning is such a game changer now to get me in the best mindset for work. First habit – having a set routine, one that prioritizes the mornings.
Lifestyle
The newest habits of mine this year are ones formed in the kitchen – composting, cooking, and eating more fruits. I’m so excited about it, but we as a family are finally composting! We don’t have a sink/garbage disposal, so we’ve been tossing food scraps into our main garbage and not surprisingly, food scraps take up most of the garbage and it also smells. We purchased compostable bags on Amazon and are now taking out the food scraps to our compost bin each night. I guess old habits are easy to change. Since moving in with Thomas, we’ve also gotten a lot more exploratory with our cooking and have replicated grandma’s food recipes and tried new ones from our cookbooks – he also makes it fun to cook with. Lastly – eating more fruits! I’ve been being more mindful with my sugar cravings and leaning towards fruits more often for snacks and after dinner. I’m starting to also really enjoy cutting fruits & plating them – guess it runs in my genes. But … you know the fridge will always still be stocked with ice cream. (;
Mind
Communication & Connection. On communication —- I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a new habit, but one I’ve been more aware and intentional about is continuing to be open with my communication. If I’m in my thoughts and know there’s something bothering me, I’m learning to no longer retain it (and overthink) but to openly express how I feel. When it comes to my relationship, Thomas has always been so receptive – he lets me speak my thoughts without getting defensive and if I’m way over my head, he’ll share his perspective too. On connection —- if the 2020/2021 taught me anything, it’s that I am happy when I feel connected to my social circle. I going to keep building the habit to nourish the connections & relationships with the friendships I have today. Being more vulnerable, having more meaningful conversations, and really understanding each other even more. Because these friends are going to be here for the long-run, I have a good feeling.
2022 – give us a good year this year. ❤️
