Thomas planned a surprise weekend getaway for my 26th birthday celebration. How he remembered me mentioning wanting to go to the Carlsbad Flower Fields is beyond me! Below are some highlights on a quick, easy, perfect weekend –
The Carlsbad Flower Fields
It was about an hour drive from our Airbnb, which was conveniently located in downtown San Diego. On Saturday, we woke up early to catch brunch at Hash House A Go-Go (I’d write about their famous s’mores mocha but then that would be the only thing I’d be thinking about) then drove off to Carlsbad and arrived around 11am. The sun was at peak so for optimal photos, I’d recommend heading there earlier!
The flower fields are open beginning March to mid-May and tickets are affordable – what’s stopping you from paying a visit? Let Spring + Summer commence.
The Crack Shack | pre-dinner
If you know Thomas and I, you know we love our foods and if there’s a gap in the itinerary, we will use that time to our advantage of trying a hotspot eatery. Came across this beauty of a place on our way back to San Diego. Three things we love – fried chicken, a sauce bar, and a fun, open atmosphere. The Crack Shack = those 3 components in 1.
We ended the night by getting the infamous Phil’s BBQ – protip: order to-go to avoid what can be a 2 hour wait. Our wait took about 10 minutes, definitely were taken aback with how quickly the food was prepped. Nonetheless, we brought dinner back to the Airbnb before a night out. AND IT WAS AMAZING, lives up to the hype. I didn’t take pictures but you can find plenty on their Yelp Page.
The day of adventures got to us and our post-dinner nap progressed into the following day. No regrets! Thank you Thomas for yet again another special, memorable birthday.
